702 / 703 HW Due Thursday May 21
Do internet research on empathy:
--Where does empathy come from?
--Can empathy by taught or learned?
Don't just look at the first few sites that come up on Google! Try to find ideas and facts that your classmates might not have found!
Write up at least a page of what you have learned. It must be mostly in your own words. If quoting a source, be sure to put quotation marks around their words.
As always, you MUST write down your sources.

702/703 HW due Monday May 11
Check
out the many different artistic representations of the novel shown in the huge
variety of covers of To Kill a Mockingbird from over the years and across the
world. Then make your own.
As you brainstorm ideas for your design, think about the main messages of the novel, and how you would entice a potential reader into purchasing/borrowing/reading the novel by designing its front cover, back cover, and spine (the part that shows when it's on the bookshelf at the store or library).
Here is a link to past covers of the book from Google images search. There are a lot of cool ones for inspiration:

Your front and back covers must include:
1. Well
thought out and executed visual elements (you may use any visual
technique you'd like as long as your final product is an original idea.
DO NOT replicate or too closely copy an existing book cover) Draw, paint, collage, Photoshop, etc.
2. The title (choose your font and size deliberately)
3. The author's name
4. A blurb (short summary of what the novel is about) to pull the reader into reading the book. Don't give away what happens, just give them a taste to peak their curiosity!
5. An interesting quote or two (not too long) from the novel to give a sense of what it is about.
See
if you can come up with a design that DOESN'T look like the ones you
find on the internet. Be creative. Think outside the box. Have fun with
it!

702/703 HW Due Monday, May 4
Finishing the novel!
Read Chapters 29, 30, and 31 (they are short)
Reflect on the title of the novel, given what happens in these chapters and other references throughout the novel. Why do you think the author chose this as her title? What is the importance / symbolism of the mockingbird? How does the title tie the different parts of the novel together?
One full page minimum.
