HW#11: Due Monday, January 4

After finishing Animal Farm and pondering some of the big questions it raises in your Reader's Reflection packet, write a well-reasoned mini-essay about what you think George Orwell's overall purpose was in writing this novel, by answering this question:

What lessons, morals, or observations about human beings, societies, revolutions, leadership, propaganda, etc. do you think George Orwell is trying to share by writing this novel?
Be sure to refer to specific evidence from the novel to support your conclusions (put page numbers in parentheses when using a quote or summarizing a scene).

Length: At least one page (you should have quite a bit more to say than just one page, however)

HW#6: Your opinion on the iceskating trip DUE FRIDAY, Dec. 18

The Iceskating Trip

What, in your opinion, should have been the school's approach to the iceskating trip to Trump's Wollman Rink? Which of these options do you most support and WHY?

Length: At least two pages, typed if possible.

You must include:
--at least three well-explained reasons why you believe that the option you chose is the best one, and
--at least one reason why each of the other options are not as good
-- AT LEAST two pieces of evidence from an outside source that helped inform your opinion. They can be from opinion articles or news articles. Try to determine whether your evidence is fact or opinion, and indicate this in your writing. Put the name of the article’s author and the page number in parentheses after the quote. If you can’t find the source’s author, put its title in parentheses. If there is no page number, then just write the author’s name or the title.

Example: Mr. Trump’s wife said, “Donald is a good looking man” (Trump 20).

(If you are not sure what you think we should have done, write about which options you are debating between, and the pros and cons of each one.)
--The whole school should have gone to the rink as in the past
--The trip should have been postponed and we should have gone to a different rink in the first week of January
--The whole school should have gone to the rink and students who chose to could have expressed their views in some way (what would have been the best way to make their opinions known?)
--Students who didn't want to go could have stayed home, and the rest of the school could have gone to Wollman Rink
--Students who didn't want to go could have come to school (what should they have done while at school?), and the rest of the students could have gone to Wollman Rink
--Students who didn't want to go could have done some other fun bonding activity, and the rest of the school could have gone to Wollman Rink
--Some other option you think of

In your explanation of your opinion, I would like you to include Explain how these facts/opinions influenced your decision.
