HW#10 (702 only)
How do some people in the documentary "Freedom Summer: Mississippi 1964" use education / learning / teaching as a force for positive change? How do some people use education / learning / teaching as a force for oppression / injustice? 1 page minimum. Make sure you are thinking of "education" not just in the traditional school sense, but in all ways that humans teach each other things and learn from each other.

HW#4: Current events assignment: Due Friday, Feb. 17
Using the media resources here and your own internet search of reliable sources, choose a current news development that interests you related to the political situation in the US. Read articles and watch videos from several news and opinion sources, and answer the following questions:
1) Summarize the basic outlines of the issue, debate, or news story in at least half a page. What are the most important facts that a reader needs to know to understand this issue/debate/story?
Write out the summary in your own words. You may use short quotes from a speaker, but do not copy the words of the journalist writing the article. For example, if Trump says (or tweets) something, you may include his exact words (inside quotation marks!) but you should not directly quote the journalists' analysis or explanation of the facts. For both direct quotes and for facts or ideas that your summarized, cite your sources by source, title, author, and date. For example:
Donald Trump tweeted, "I am so proud of my daughter Ivanka. To be abused and treated so badly by the media, and to still hold her head so high, is truly wonderful!" (cnn.com, "All the President's tweets," Amanda Wills and Alysha Love, Feb. 12, 2007)
2) Explain at least two different views on the issue at hand. Again, be sure to cite your sources by source, title, author, and date. By reading a variety of sources, seek out the points of views of both supporters and critics of the President's policies. (At least one half page)
3) What questions did your initial research raise in your mind that you would like to answer? Give at least three.
4) Choose at least one of your questions and provide the answers you found from further research . (At least one half page). Be sure to cite your sources.
5) What connections can you make between what is happening today and what we have studied this year in Humanities class, or other historical events you have learned about or fiction books you have read? (At least one half page)
